Advancing preclinical neuropathic pain research
Advancing preclinical neuropathic pain research: a focus on sleep, depression and chemobrain
For patients suffering with chronic neuropathic pain, (e.g. diabetes, chemotherapy) the need for suitable novel therapies is imperative. The key to developing new treatments lies in identifying measurable endpoints in both preclinical and human subjects to aid translation of preclinical results to the clinic.
Building on the impressive work that Transpharmation’s Dr Amy Fisher has already accomplished, we have partnered with the University of Hertfordshire to successfully recruit multi award winning PhD student Michael Lanigan to focus exclusively on refining novel endpoints for our neuropathic pain assays. Michael was recently awarded the prestigious 2019 British Pharmacological Society Undergraduate Prize.
Using our strengths in EEG, MMN, cognition and biomarker analysis we will be working with UoH to better understand the behavioural and biochemical impact of pain and analgesia. We hope this work will create better translational preclinical research models, refine the drug discovery process for our clients and lead to the development of new medicines for patients suffering with neuropathic pain.
